We’re back for the third time with more ways that can help drive traffic to your website! It’s possible you might be sick of that phrase by now, anyone who’s spent longer than a week in the digital marketing world probably is, but it does have its fair share of benefits – and is arguably the most efficient way to see a return of investment!

For this trick however, you won’t find yourself reaching deep into pockets. In fact, the majority of it is completely free. Yes, you guessed it – social media!

Social media is a lot more than looking at the latest fashion trends or seeing memes of someone getting slapped at the Oscars (if you know, you know), it can actually be a really simple way of engaging with your audience and breaking down those hard-faced business barriers. Whether you’re trying to attract your first customer or your 1000th, generating traffic to your online site is crucial in ensuring that your business grows.

If you’ve already optimized your site through SEO techniques, then an increase in web traffic could result in more customers and more conversions!

There are a few things we should mention before we dive into social media. Marketing wise, the good thing about website traffic is that the process of getting your first customer is no different to the next. What we do want though, is to ensure that these customers and your traffic convert into sales and profit, and for that there are some steps to take first.

Firstly, we need to ask if this is a good product/service, is it going to stop your customers from scrolling and think I can genuinely benefit from this (at a price they are willing to pay too)?

Then comes the target market: is there a large amount of people already spending their money on the same type of product, what makes you different from them?

Which brings me onto my next question, is there an addressable target market? An addressable market is a group of people that have visible shared qualities, spending money on something. Is there a specific market you can focus on?

Do you have a great product story? You might answer immediately yes, which is all well and good, but ensure that this is translated through the visual content and text that people see on their phone. It needs to be compelling enough so that customers are stopped in their scrolling tracks and are willing to purchase.

And finally, is there a way of reaching this audience through low-cost means? We can answer this now…yes – through social media!

Lead Generation

It’s important that every post you make on social media has a meaning. That’s not to say that you can’t post quirky, in-house stories or lunches in the office – which is something we like to call behind the scenes. Put simply, people are nosy and the more you share on your stories, whether that be selfies of the team or a major coffee spill down your white shirt, the more the customers see that you are a REAL brand, with genuine human beings working for you.

This is very important for customer attraction and retention, they are much more likely to resonate with a brand that feels real to them than a robotic one with perfectly designed posts.

This links back to my original point – meaning. Ensuring that your content calendar is filled with different types of content for social media is one thing, but customers actually benefiting from them is another. You should question what they will gain from your brand if they do go ahead with the purchase, and before that, what will you do to reassure them that they will? This can be anything, such as a free consultation with one of your directors or if you’re a product based store – a personalised note free of charge.

This gesture will increase your website traffic. The customer, who now feels it’s a worthwhile purchase, will much more likely click the link that heads to your website and give your business their time of day. This is called lead generation – the process of gaining the interest of potential customers in order to increase future sales.

Engage!

Social media engagement is much more than sharing a link to a website on major platforms (Instagram, Facebook etc), in the hope it will drive website traffic. Engagement is about encouraging conversations with the right customers online and responding to their queries, increasing their enthusiasm along the way.

You can do this through polls, competitions or even giveaways. Anything that’s a little out of the ordinary and will invite customers in. But don’t forget that link at the end, after all, you do want to increase your website traffic!

Paid Social Media Ads

I did mention that social media was a low-cost solution to increase your website traffic, and up to now all the techniques are completely free! However, social media advertising is worth a mention and is a great option to bump those website numbers up…

Organic reach is getting harder to achieve, which is where this might come in handy. You can create targeted campaigns to put out tailor-made adverts to the customers that are most likely to click through and purchase your products.

Although every platform uses advertising, it doesn’t mean you should use all of them. When choosing where to place your ads, it’s helpful to know who your target audience is, where are they most engaged and accessible to you? For example, if you’re trying to target teens your best bet will be Tiktok. Middle-aged men and women however, are more active on Facebook.

To find this out, you should look at which platforms perform the best organically for your brand. Then you can discover where you content is hitting the best, and will probably be the best option as you start out with paid ads.

An example of these would be Instagram ads. As an incredibly active platform, there are more than one billion users worldwide – 90% of these following a business, according to Instagram.

Finding hashtags and creating content can therefore be a good way of increasing your brand awareness and growing your following. Combine this with its advertising platform, you’ll most likely start to see an increase in website traffic and sales – especially if you’ve already got a substantial following on there.
