A 24-year-old from Stroud has been appointed as a land buyer at Bellway after successfully completing the housebuilder’s graduate scheme.

Chloe Betts took up her full-time position last month (October) at Bellway South West’s headquarters in Bristol.

The graduate joined Bellway in January 2020 after taking time out to go travelling to Thailand and Australia with her boyfriend for three months.

“I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a geography degree in 2018 and worked and saved money to go travelling,” said Chloe, who comes from Crediton, near Exeter, but now lives in Stroud.

“It was fantastic chance to see another part of the world and it gave me a break from studying to give me time to figure out what I wanted to do as a career. I actually applied for the graduate scheme with Bellway while I was out in Australia. I read the specification about the land graduate position and it sounded like a job I would enjoy and be good at.”

Chloe said she has received quality training and mentoring during her time on the scheme.

“Everyone at Bellway has been incredibly encouraging and supportive throughout the scheme,” she said. “The company’s ‘wellbeing’ policy is commendable and the support you get in that respect is reassuring.

“A big part of my job is being part of the team which has to help secure land, through the planning and bid processes, to allow Bellway to build new homes for people. It is an exciting role and I am learning something new every day.

“As a team we are getting stuck into five bids for land which could see Bellway South West creating new neighbourhoods in different parts of the region. As a division we are looking to branch out to the south of the region towards Exeter which is the part of the country that I grew up in so that is particularly interesting for me.”

Dan Holland, Regional Director of Bellway South West, said: “It is great that Chloe is taking on a full-time post with us at Bellway South West. Her dedication, enthusiasm and can-do attitude have shone through throughout her time with us and we are delighted to welcome her as a permanent member of the team in Bristol.

“Chloe is a shining example of how the graduate scheme works at Bellway. The scheme allows us to employ some of the best young people as they finish university and look to set out in the world of work.

“The training schedule allows us to evaluate their progress and affords them the time to assess if the housebuilding industry is the career for them. In this case, it transpires that Chloe is a perfect fit both for us and for her.”
