We’ve finally made it to the last chapter of our latest series, ‘Why should you use Twitter?’ Well done if you made it this far! Twitter’s been knocking about and spamming up our phones since 2006, so why don’t we have a look and see how it can be used to benefit our digital marketing? Rather than keeping tabs on the latest KimYe scandal…
1. Breaking News
I know I’ve just said not to be inundated with gossip around the world, but it is important you’re in the know of the breaking news – whether that be specifically to your industry or not. You never know, there could be a brand new service your business would benefit from or an update about a product you would hear about first-hand. News is often broken on Twitter, and you can follow events as they unfold in real time – which is normally from the voices of real, on the ground people. The last thing you want is to be kept out of the loop, all because you haven’t created a twitter account.
2. Distribution like you’ve never seen before!
One of twitter’s most favourable traits is how fast it can distribute news and ideas. A simple share can put your latest business update on the screens of possible clients, or future business partners and this can work out very handy for you. Remember to share your latest projects, news, interests, industry insights or even behind the scenes work – everyone’s a bit nosy sometimes!
Jokes aside, keeping your twitter account active – even if that means sharing other posts – is important for getting your name out there and getting as much exposure as you can!
3. Track and trace – not that one…
Like many other social media platforms, Twitter has analytics tools that can help you track when people click on or share your content. With this information you can then discover what performs well and what doesn’t, what your followers like and what they don’t. This helps you create content that is unique to your business and is something your followers can look out for! As probably many of us could appreciate, this is also saves us a lot of time. There’s no point spending hours working on content that performs poorly once posted.
4. Chit-chatting
An important thing to note about Twitter is how easy it is to interact on the platform. Your followers can share comments and questions directly with you, and it’s been made very easy for you to respond. The conversations you have with your customers are open to the public eye, so 1: they can easily join in if they wish and 2: they can see how well your business handles any issues and how you communicate with them. This engagement is often disregarded as we enter a world where digital chatbots take over our inboxes. People like to see a little human interaction now and then and to be reminded that you are a REAL business, which could ultimately lead to strong client relationships in the future.
5. Real-time search
Let’s be honest, the fast-paced, widely accessible technology we’ve all become accustomed to has made us a little impatient – people want to know news and they want to know it quickly. Users expect to be able to find the most up to date information quickly and go directly to the source to get it – in this case Twitter. If you’re posting updates or breaking news of your own directly there, it makes it easy for your customers to be kept in the loop.
6. Connectivity
It comes as no surprise that a social media network can easily connect you with people – influencers, managing directors, decision makers – who would have otherwise been inaccessible out of the digital world. Twitter allows you to engage with individuals that you normally wouldn’t contact by joining a conversation that they are already talking about, offering your own point of view and connecting with others of a similar field (or not.) Doing this consistently means people are able to find you and connect on topics that are relevant. Eventually, if you’re active on Twitter enough, you’ll build your reputation as a thought leader on the topics you Tweet about the most.
7. Newsletters
A more recent revelation to come of Twitter is their newsletters.
Twitter users can now start their own newsletters, which will allow writers and other content creators to generate and publish their own independent newsletters through a paid subscription. With so many users building brands off of their followings, it’s an ideal home for writers – especially those who want to quickly monetize their popular content on the platform.
Twitter has acquired Revue, a service that makes it free and easy for anyone to start and publish editorial. With a robust community of writers and readers, Twitter is positioned to help organisations and writers grow their readership faster and at a much larger scale than anywhere else. Twitter have made Revue’s Pro features free for all accounts and also lowered the paid newsletter fee to 5%, allowing writers keep more of the revenue generated from subscriptions.
If you sign up for a Twitter newsletter, you’ll be able to:
- compose and schedule newsletters – adding media, links, original text to your newsletter before publishing it straight away
- design your newsletter template – choose your colour scheme, as well as how the content is laid out once delivered
- import email lists – you’ll be able to access your Subscribers tab, which keeps an updated list of those who read your newsletter
- embed social media content – integrate your content from your twitter profile, as well as others like Facebook
- earn money from subscribers – download the stripe extension and link it to your account to mark revenue off the content created
- analyse engagement – the insights page will enable to you evaluate data related to your publication, average click rates etc
The newsletters can publish any editorial content that your brand puts out, whether that be your weekly blog entries or an article you want to publish in regards to your brand or industry.
As you can tell, there are many benefits that come with creating a Twitter account. But they’re no use sitting sounding pretty in our blog, use them for yourself and see how your twitter journey can be elevated today! After all, it’s the cheapest digital marketing you’ll find…
